The UCI men’s world road championship was yesterday, somewhere in Italy. And, in Gloucester, Mass, some famous cyclocross dudes were racing for The Grand Prix.
That’s what I hear, anyway. I was keepin it local here in New York State: I dusted off the cross bike, woke up at a ridiculously early hour, loaded up the family, and headed up the Palisades Parkway to exit 17. I’d always wondered, when passing it, what the Anthony Wayne Recreational Area was all about. Now we are slightly better acquainted.
I raced two races. My third and fourth CX races, respectively. The first went pretty well. In the second, I got killed. Do you want to hear my excuses? I didn’t think so. I would like to apologize, though, to everyone who was visiting Anthony Wayne, for my brake pad/wheel combination, and the maladjustment of those wrong brake pads. And, too, the overuse- probably- of those brakes. The noise was hideous, I know. I’m sorry.
I did manage to shoot some pictures, once the delirium had more or less subsided from my pedaling efforts. Here is a selection of those. I hope they at least in part make up for any suffering caused by the animal-torture-sounds brakes.
